Forty years ago, I heard my mother laughing (or rather guffawing) over "Brimstone in the Garden." It was a library book, and disappeared from the library. About a year and a half ago, I managed to find a copy through the internet, and was able to read it to my mother before she passed away. The whole family enjoyed it, and I think it is probably Elizabeth Cadell's greatest comedy. A pity (and mystery, to me) that it only enjoyed one printing. I paid a bundle for a beat up first edition (only edition, as far as I can find out), but it was definitely worth it.

I, too, have been reading Elizabeth Cadell books since I was in high school. I have read them over and over again, especially when I want to visit happy, familiar times. I have collected about 2/3 of them and have read all but four.

Hi, what a great website. I love Elizabeth Cadell's books - I have lots of my mother's and read them as a teen - I still enjoy re-reading them as does my daughter. You have inspired me to collect more of them. I hope that one day my five grand daughters will also enjoy them. Lovely to know there are others who still appreciate her books

I too am one of Elizabeth Cadell's children. I love her storytelling. I find I can lose myself in her books. I started reading them in high school and continue to read them any time I feel the need to escape life's realities.

I enjoyed many of Elizabeth Caddell's gentle books -- and then read "A Lion In The Way". I think you have to have read a lot of her books before, to really "get" the full weight of her portrait of India, and Ghandi. It was heartbreaking . I am actually in the middle of trying to find pieces of her childhood to potentially use in a Sunday School course that mentions Ghandi and simplicity. Her descriptions made those times come alive.

Anna, You would probably enjoy reading Sun in the Morning, which is one of Elizabeth Cadell's early books about her childhood in India.
